Or should I say life without Christ's body in this world. What would that look like? Sure, we often give ourselves a hard time. We could most certainly do better. I'm certain hypocrisy and false teachings have led others astray (or deep down is it food for their hardening heart?). But for all the hypocrisy, you can find much compassion. For all the mis understood teachings you can find someone giving of themselves.
Yesterday, amidst the Christians who were angry "elves", had cigarettes and were storming off in anger there were countless Christians happily giving up their day to give and distribute gifts at the Storehouse's' annual Christmas gift distribution.
Upon arrival we, as volunteers, were told that we weren't needed. There were "500 other volunteers already" I was told. It didn't matter, since our sole job was to take pictures. For more pics, click here.
Then we walked into this room filled with Christmas presents! By the way those weren't from Santa, they were from loving Christians who wanted to better some strangers Christmas day. They will forever remain anonymous.
Many of the receiving families had just lost work and you could tell they were humbly accepting these gifts. Every family was extremely thankful and excited. You wouldn't believe the train of gifts as the young volunteers gift carriers followed the recipients to their car.
As I was leaving, I couldn't help but wonder, what would the world look like without Christians? Without hope of God in this world? What would it look like without Christ's body. Sure, these Christmas families would be ok without a skateboard or a new bike, but this massive expression of love reminded me of all the mouths fed, all the bodies warmed and all the souls given hope through the gospel.
Without Christians, I think this world would look more like Pottersville. Remember what the world looked like without George Baily in "It's a wonderful life"? Christians are the George Bailys of this world, just trying to do the right thing. In a completely selfish economy like Pottersville, the rest of the world would likely be much worse off than it already is.
Cheers to all the Christian trying to make this world a better place!
